Special Grants
SMALL GRANTS - (Request must be under $1,000) A small grant is to assist with an event or program related to breast cancer. A written follow up report of the event including speakers, number attending, etc. must be sent to the Affiliate following the event. These grants are usually for unexpected expenses for STEP grant recipients. They are NOT intended to support salary, services for an individual, or development of materials.
CONFERENCE GRANTS - (Request must be under $5,000) A conference grant is to assist with local scientific or educational conferences targeting the medical community (and can include the general public) pertaining to breast cancer issues. A written follow up report of the conference including speakers, number attending, CEU credits, etc. must be sent to the Affiliate following the event. The Komen Affiliate is to receive appropriate recognition in all materials produced for the conference. Approved logos can be provided via email.
TRAVEL SCHOLARSHIPS - (Request must be under $1,000 for domestic travel and under $2,000 for international) Travel scholarships are to assist professionals in attending, participating in, and/or presenting at conferences, programs, roundtables, etc. pertaining to breast cancer issues. A recipient must provide an agenda of the event along with their request. A written follow up report of the event and an itemized expense report with original receipts must be sent to the Affiliate following the event. It is preferable for travel scholarships to reimburse travel expenses up to the approved dollar amount upon the presentation of receipts instead of using a cash advance. If this is not possible or presents a hardship on the recipient, the scholarships may be issued as a travel advance and must be supported by an expense report with original receipts to the Affiliate within 30 days of travel.
These grants are on a first-come first-served basis. They are reviewed by a committee of three Affiliate representatives and are approved by the Affiliate Board. Grant requests can be submitted in the form of a letter with appropriate details to the e-mail address below. The process usually takes 3-4 weeks because the Board meets monthly and the request must be put on the Board agenda for a vote.
